BEDO is one of the most reputed national level non Government Organization working about 30 years in the community. It works for the promotion of vulnerable, ultra-poor people in the community for changing their living standards, to develop eco-social empowerment and their dignity. According to this aspect, BEDO implemented different types of project and programs at community level. As the part of this;Recovery and Advancement of Informal Sector Employment (RAISE) project is runningfrom July, 2022. The project financed by World Bank &Palli Karma Shahayak Foundation (PKSF). The objective of this project is to provide services for low income youth and COVID-19 affected micro-entrepreneurs in urban and peri-urban areas of Naogaon, Joypurhat and Bogra district.

A Success Story of RAISE Project
Indra Devi resides in Rishipara village in Raninagar, Naogaon. Her husband works husband by crafting cradles. Due to the superior quality of the cradles crafted by Inde Mohri in the local Court. Over time. Her husband finds it difficult to manager Fl expenditures because of higher living costs, In response, Indra Devi decides to supTe the demand for her products has steadily increased. She sells these cradles to whod and also participates in local fairs to showcase her creations.
During the nationwide lockdown imposed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Indra enca significant challenges with her business. Her sole cradle-making venture was on the незн manage her family’s expenses. As a consequence, she incurred a financial to closing during this period. To cope with the situation, she had to dip into her savirg approximately 150.000 Taka between the years 2020 and 2021. In 2022, followings govemment’s decision to ease the COVID-19 lockdown measures, she recommences business activities. However, she found it difficult to restore her business to its pres position due to the escalated prices of raw materials post the pandemic, With insufic funds at her disposal, she resorted to borrowing money in order to reestablish cradle-making enterprise.
During this period. Indra came to know about the RAISE project, a credit in to aid individuals affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Intrigued by the prospects of t implemented by BEDO in collaboration with PKSF and the World Bank, specifically designe program, Indra expressed her interest and subsequently was chosen to receive amounting to 98,000 Taka from BEDO under RAISE project. With this financial assistance hand, she rejuvenated her cradle crafting business with renewed optimism. Presently, sh produces between 15 to 20 cradles weekly, each selling for 300 Taka. This has translated a monthly income of approximately 10,000 Taka for her.
Indra Devi envisions expanding her business by setting up a factory that aims to provi employment opportunities for women in rural areas. Her journey stands as a shins testament to BEDO’s commitment to empower women in remote regions.
